This past Sunday, October 12, members of the Running Club at Ohio State participated in Kappa Alpha Theta’s seventh annual Rock The CASA Theta 5K at the RPAC Plaza.
Top finishers of the 5K from Running Club include Ryan Dull, “Big Red”, who finished first with a lightning bolt time of 17:27.16, followed closely by John Lin (17:28.18) and Robert Klett, “Bobby”(17:32.64), placing second and third respectively. From the ladies’ side of the club, Francesca Rimer, “Frankie”, placed first in the women’s division, finishing with a speedy time of 21:50.81!
The funds raised from this event were donated to the Theta Foundation, along with Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA),Theta’s national philanthropy. CASA is a national association that trains and supports volunteers that advocate for abused or neglected children who are going through the court systems, to ensure that they end up in a safe home. This year, the philanthropy event raised about $6,500.
Running Club enjoyed being able to get out and run for a great cause. With a weekend free of a cross country meet, it was nice to fit in a workout while benefiting the efforts of Theta’s national philanthropy.
Looking ahead: This Sunday, October 19, a large number of Running Club members will either be running or volunteering in the Columbus Nationwide Children’s Hospital Marathon & 1/2 Marathon, including the Theta 5K champ, “Big Red” who will be running his first full marathon! Best of luck to all the runners who are finishing up their training and running this weekend!
